Cricket is said to be the religion for India. It becomes the platform for the people to come and unite on this very pleasure that the Indians have. People from around the world, of different classes and statuses, color and creed come together and forget their individual issues and rivalries. It is undoubtedly the best thing that has happened to our country right from the beginning.
When it is about the cricket, everyone and anyone would be interested as to what is happening in the field of sports, cricket being the most liked and loved by the people. And on 23rd June, 2016, Anil Kumble, former Indian Captain was appointed as the new coach to the team India. With a lot of eyebrows raised, Anil Kumble is all set to craft the Indian Cricket Team’s future. Along with the title, he also has been shouldered with the responsibility of undertaking India’s four test tours of the West Indies.
It was something that none had expected looking to the past experience of the Anil. He has been the Indian cricket team captain, but when it came to coaching, it raised many eyebrows as he had no such experience in the field of coaching. When the BCCI (The Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced for the search for coach for the cricket team, 57 applications were received, including Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil, Daniel Vettori, and Anil Kumble. Kumble was initially not in the top 20 list of the applicants when the Cricket Advisory Committee, involving of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS laxman, Sourav Ganguly decided to pick Kumble under the top 20 list and he thereon become the favorite among the others.
Almost all the applicants and the selected ones were interviewed except countably of them who were physically present at the table. And with the consent of the committee, the members as well as the stakeholders, Kumble was taken as the coach for the Indian Cricket team. The other mentors were to be chosen after discussions with Anil.
Anil Kumble is said to be given the chance to prove himself in spite his lack of experience as a coach. He has been an amazing player on the field and grabs the award for the highest wickets in India and the third highest wicket taker around the world, scoring at 619 wickets. Along with that the bonus plays in the fact that he had also mentored two of the IPL teams, the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In one of his interviews post the declaration, he did suggest that he has to sit with the players, get to know the best and the worst points and work according to their needs, guide them and make them better players. It is not only one section that he is going to look into, but as an overall player and a coach that the people are expecting the team to be. For now, his strategy is to win the West Indies series and soon he will be working with the players for the same. He says that he misses the players Sachin, and Sourav with whom he have had the good years of cricket and also appreciates his wife’s and family’s support in him being the coach for the Indian Team.
